2020 Arlington Fire Ball Awards

VOTING FOR 2020 IS NOW CLOSED

The objective of this awards program is to provide recognition for members and employees of the Arlington Fire Department that have rendered exceptional service to the fire service, their peers and leaders and the Arlington community. 

PROCESS.

  • Nominations will be accepted from active members of the Arlington Fire Department. All ranks and positions may make nominations. Only one set of nominations is allowed per individual in the employ of Arlington Fire Department.
  • Nominations may be made through several avenues: online portal/survey, via email to arlingtonfirecg@gmail.com, or via paper-based form provided to the stations.
  • Nominations will be kept confidential.
  • Once received, nominations will be reviewed by Arlington Fire Charitable Group Member Fund leaders.  Those with the most nominations in a category, will be awarded at the Arlington Fire Ball. 

RULES.

  • We ask that you please observe these rules, as it will make this process far smoother for those managing the process. 
  • Each active member/employee of the Arlington Fire Department may only vote once.
  • Please do not vote on behalf of someone else.
  • No funny business (i.e. sending in fake votes).

  • Firefighter of the Year
  • Driver of the Year
  • Officer of the Year
  • Fire Prevention of the Year
  • FD Civilian of the Year
  • Camaraderie Awards

 CRITERIA.

All awardees will exhibit duty, honor, compassion, and excellence, and will be evaluated with attention to the following criteria:

  • Dedication – to their crew and activities within their fire department.
  • Loyalty – to their fire department and to its peers and leaders.  
  • Productivity – beyond normal duties of their position, making visible improvements that have enhanced the department’s ability to better serve the community.
  • Professionalism – exemplifying the competency that reflects the highest standards of the fire department and demonstrating the ability to lead and follow.

Rookie of the Year. 

Chosen by fellow peers and fire department leadership, the Rookie of the Year Award is presented to an individual who is new to the fire department, but has quickly exemplified the positive characteristics of a member of the fire service. This individual has, through hard work and dedication to learning, already established impressive service record and reputation.  Nominee must be a current member of the Arlington Fire Rescue Operations, and must be from BTS 32 or later.

Firefighter of the Year. 

Chosen by fellow peers and fire department leadership, the Firefighter of the Year Award is presented to the individual who exemplifies the positive characteristics of a member of the fire service and who has a notable record of service and achievements.  Although not an award for heroism, this award is presented to the individual who has given selflessly of themselves in support of the department, the fire service in general and the Arlington community.  Nominee must be a current member of the Arlington Fire Rescue Operations, and must be firefighter rank at the time of voting. Probationary firefighters are not eligible.

Driver of the Year.

Chosen by fellow peers and fire department leadership, the Driver of the Year Award is presented to the individual who best exemplifies the characteristics of a driver with an outstanding record of fire service achievements and leadership. The individual should be an outstanding leader involved not only in their station or department, but in other aspects of the fire service and Arlington community.  This award is meant to honor an individual who has given selflessly of themselves to the fire service and those they serve.  Nominee must be a current member of the Arlington Fire Rescue Operations, and must be Driver/AO rank at the time of voting.

Officer of the Year.

Chosen by fellow peers and fire department leadership, the Officer of the Year Award is presented to the individual who best exemplifies the characteristics of an officer, with an outstanding record of fire service achievements and leadership. The individual should be an outstanding leader involved not only in their station or department, but in other aspects of the fire service and Arlington community.  This award is meant to honor an individual who has given selflessly of themselves to the fire service and those they serve. Nominee must be a current member of the Arlington Fire Rescue Operations, and must be at least the Lieutenant rank or higher.

Fire Prevention Member of the Year. 

Chosen by fellow peers and fire department leadership, the Fire Prevention Member of the Year Award is presented to the individual who exemplifies the positive characteristics of a member of the Fire Prevention team and who has a notable record of service and achievements.  This award is presented to the individual who has shown a high-level of thoroughness in their daily tasks, and who has selflessness and care for their colleagues throughout the fire service and towards those in general and the Arlington community. Nominee must be a current member of the Arlington Fire Prevention Team, excluding Assistant Chief and Fire Marshall rankings.

FD Civilian of the Year. 

Chosen by fellow peers and fire department leadership, the FD Civilian of the Year Award is presented to the individual who exemplifies the positive characteristics of a member of the civilian teams and positions  and who has a notable record of service and achievements.  This award is presented to the individual who has shown great selflessness and care for their colleagues throughout the fire service and towards those in general and the Arlington community. Nominee must be a current member of the Arlington Fire Department in a Civilian Classification position (non-Fire Suppression, non-Fire Prevention, non-Fire Management).

Camaraderie Award.

This award is presented to an individual who through their daily interactions with fellow firefighters builds mutual trust and friendship, exhibits loyalty, and drives accord and unity throughout the department.  Nominee must be a current member of Arlington Fire Department, and may be any rank.
